1940’s Woodlawn Pool

Thanks to HHS ’51 classmate Alice Schmidt Mullen for this photo of the Woodlawn Pool. Woodlawn opened up in 1923 as a “Natatorium,” and was a feature of the Woodlawn Park which was located between South Logan Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, and Greenwood Avenue. The Lasek family were the most recent proprietors until just recently when the pool closed down. The property is now occupied by new homes. Thanks again, Alice….you’re the best.

  1. Was born in 1968 and raised On Connecticut ave across the street from Woodlawn pool until it was sold and homes were built. We knew the lasek family well. Many a good times living and growing up on Connecticut ave remembering the pool. We had a pool in are own back yard but would still buy passes every year because all our friends went there. They would give us a discount rate because we lived on the street and knew the family. I do remember Someone did die in the pool. A boy hit his head on a sliding board support pole and drowned. Such a shame.
